Origins of Freestyle Skiing
These film segment is from Dick Barrymore’s “The Golden Years of Ski Films”. It highlights the origins of skiing and of Hot Dog Skiing.
In 1969 New York Times film critic Roger Greenspun had this to say about perhaps Dick Barrymore’s films:
“His films succeeds surprisingly well — surprisingly at least for me, because I have never been on skis in my life, have never wanted to ski, and in general have embraced indolence with a passion most men reserve for their mistresses.
The films know that skiing is a more serious occupation than, say, working, and that like sailing, climbing, and all the lonely ways of wasting time — it is a form of contemplation.”
