Joe Kittinger

In 1960 Joe Kittinger jumped from a specialised hot air balloon at 100, 000 feet.

He fell to Earth at the speed of sound.

After falling for 13 seconds, his six-foot canopy parachute opened and stabilized his fall.  Only four minutes and 36 seconds more were needed to bring him down to another 17,500 feet  where his regular 28-foot parachute opened, allowing him to float the rest of the way to Earth.

An amazing man and story, he is allowed to wear a neckerchief.
