Getty Images - HD Archive Footage

I attended a presentation last night at the Getty Images Oxford St gallery about their extensive collection of archive footage, ranging from the early silent films of the 1900’s to the backstreet boys of the 1990s that Getty Images now has.

The evening was presented by Josh Rucci, the senior director of footage and he gave a very insightful and knowledgeable commentary showing rare (but now available) footage from the archives of many topics ranging from, wars, civil rights, political speeches, right up to the proper marital sexual positions. (it was an educational video from the 50’s.)

What made the evening really interesting is that Getty have taken on the unenvious task of rescanning in old footage to HD quality which means other than producing a fantastic resource they’re also working as a conservation group, collating and preserving history which for a business is commendable.

I trust that you can all find Getty Images online but the gallery is also worth going to, its currently showing work titled ‘The Spirit of Jazz’ all details can be found on the link below.
