JooYoun Paek
JooYoun Paek is an artist and designer in her own right, mainly focussing on creating objects and installations that celebrate interaction and try to reflect natural human behaviour, tecnhology and social change. Pictured above is Pillowig (2004) which was based around her research into an everyday urban lifestyle. Lovely.

Mike Afsa gives us all a few hints for better living! Thanks Mike! A great piece of stop-frame animation using everyday objects to tell simple stories of how we can make those little changes in our lives!
This is his latest offering but there are some old hints which live here. Recuperate suggest you make a cup of tea, watch the video and then go visit his site to find a couple of other gems.

If watching 17 minute of naked models playing in the sun with Terry Richardson and his camera isn’t quite your cup of tea then this video isn’t for you.
And if you do like tea, then it’ll probably be cold by the time you’ve finished watching this.

Massimo Vignelli 1972 New York Subway map
Massimo Vignelli design way back in 72 probably one of the most beautiful modern maps to date, so much so that I had planned to write a overly detailed borderline essay upon it. However, youtube annoyingly got in the way and i don’t think i can beat the man himself describing his map and his abstract geographical interpretations.
enjoy!

Vice have just put up online their ‘Heavy Metal in Baghdad’ documentary which follows the only metal band in Baghdad, Acrassiauda struggling to exist- together as a band and individually on a daily basis. Not surprisingly this much talked about documentary is definitely worth the watch.
James Hetfield (the hairy ginger one) from Metallica once said “Authority pisses me off. I...

The Hierarchy of Digital Distractions
We’ve posted before about how much we enjoy David McCandless’- Information is Beautiful site, and just like in Maslows hierarchy of needs, David has shown us that the world of social ‘digital’ has reached a point that it now also belongs in a big triangle. Excellent. Be sure to check out his site.

These film segment is from Dick Barrymore’s “The Golden Years of Ski Films”. It highlights the origins of skiing and of Hot Dog Skiing.

70’s Race Car Design
This video provides a very interesting look at the design of racing cars in 70s. An incredible era when sponsorship was minimal but expressive and no part of the car was left looking redundant.
From the Gestalten.tv website:
“Mechanics and team members – not designers or marketing strategists – adorned racecars with all of those flashy stripes, logos, numbers and...

James Kuhn
It’s safe to say if you don’t want your dreams to be turned into nightmares you’d best not click play above. Although we at Recuperate are sure these images aren’t meant to be too sinister.. yet we can’t help but admit they do creep us out a little bit.
This is the work of artists James Kuhn who started a project called ‘365 transformations’ in which he turns himself into a new...
